We live in an era in which usual methods are not sufficient, because information is easily accessible, and it is not possible to absorb it all by just one person. Therefore, we teachers should try to develop pupils` imagination, and not to force them by means of old-fashioned ideas. Today the teacher`s role is to adopt new trends and use methods, which develop pupil`s imagination and teach them to absorb new information.
We live fast and all parts of our lives are marked with the improvement of high-end technology. Teaching methods which have been used for years are not sufficient for capturing children`s attention. It is necessary to move with the times and find new methods, which would be interesting and attractive enough for children nowadays. The teacher, as a mediator of new knowledge, must adapt to this fact and make continual progress.
Teachers must prepare pupils for the future in which demanding problems are going to arise, and it will not be possible to solve them by individuals. There is a tendency to prefer ability to work in a team, communication skills, and independent and critical thinking. One of the possibilities to make application easier is to use new methods in teaching. Cooperative as well as competitive methods of teaching help to build self-confident and independent young people, who will be able to solve problems.
Cooperative and competitive learning represent methods by which the teacher transfers responsibility for learning process to pupils, and their success is based on thinking, involvement and desire to learn new things.
